Italian Heel
Puglia is located in the “boot-shaped” heel of Italy, in the south of the country, an appellation of mainly stony hills and plains, with soils of chalky limestone of the Quaternary deposits, rich in iron, which are the natural conditions that provide the basis for a favorable environment for one of the largest wine regions in Italy.
Alberobello Elf Town

Speaking of Puglia Puglia, have to mention an elf town called Alberobello Alberobello, Italian reads like a spell of the magical world, where more than 1,000 peculiar buildings are preserved - Trulli Trulli, walls painted white, roofs piled up in a conical shape, resembling the elves' hats left on the earth, very cute, I was fortunate to be in the 2016 for the first time to go here, head of blue sky and white clouds strolling in the town, the road on both sides of the flowers, as if by mistake entered the fairy tale world of elf life.
Representative grape varieties

The Puglia appellation has a Mediterranean climate, with plenty of light and favorable sea breezes, making it an ideal place for winegrowing. It is a place where the sea breeze blows and the sun shines for thousands of years, where cool sea air and warm sunshine collide with ice and fire, resulting in rich red wines with notes of raisins, plums, spices and dark chocolate.
1 Primitivo Primitivo

Primitivo Primitivo originates from the Primitivo di Manduria appellation in the Puglia region of Italy, and is one of the outstanding representatives of the successful transplantation of the Italian native grape variety Primitivo to Napa in the U.S.A. It was renamed Zinfandel Zinfandel, and was given a new life, which was so successful that it has become a baron in the U.S. wine industry!
Primitivo actually means early ripening, as this grape variety gathers a lot of sugar in the early stages of harvesting, and can express rich, sweet and abundant fruit flavors. The warm sunshine and sea breezes allow Primitivo to produce wines with dark fruit flavors: blueberry, blackberry flavors and a distinctive air-dried fruit note, which is probably what makes Primitivo a paradise!

This dry, hot land turns the blazing sun of Southern Italy into intense Primitivo wines in the glass. The Primitivo di Manduria Villa Santera from the Leone de Castris winery has an intense dark ruby color, almost purple, with rich plum and wild cherry fruit and a hint of vanilla, and a full-bodied, soft and balanced mouthfeel with a long, lingering finish. This bottle is also very satisfying to take on a picnic with juicy grilled meats!
2 Negroamaro

Thick-skinned and deep-colored, Mandhelinga Negra is a vigorous, high-yielding variety that produces wines of deep color, sweetness and velvety smoothness. High-quality wines are produced in areas close to the sea, where the cool nights are conducive to the coalescence of the grape's flavors.

With it, this Pegasus Salice Red Wine Epicuro Salice Salentino DOP Rosso is made with a bright ruby red color, accompanied by flavors of ripe red berries, black pepper, vegetables and herbs, as well as an attractive balsamic aroma. Smooth, fresh and juicy on the palate, well balanced and with a long aftertaste.
3 Susumaniello
Here's a niche grape variety to introduce: Susumaniello Susumaniello, a little-known red grape variety from Puglia in southern Italy that grows almost exclusively in the Salice Salento region, in a handful of vineyards near Brindisi, and is one of the rarest wine grapes in the world.
Susumaniello's name also has an interesting story. I was taught in a private party with my boss, at that time I only one-sidedly know susumaniello is the name of the grape variety, and it comes from somarello, meaning “little donkey”, in the first year of planting, the yield is particularly amazing, as if a donkey on the back of the goods, so the origin of the name.
This Pegasus Crisp Red Wine, Epicuro Puglia IGP Susumaniello Rosso, has a deep ruby red color with purple hues. Aromas of blueberries and ripe red fruits, undergrowth and red flowers, with tobacco, vanilla and a hint of spice on the finish. Elegant and powerful, with ripe tannins and fresh fruity flavors, it is delicious and persistent.
Italian wines, both red and white, are more than just a drink, they are an expression of passion, so keep your eyes peeled for the colorful world of Italian wines.
