Collet - White Riesling
The Colla family has been living on the land as winemakers for generations and aspired to create their own wines that would not be outdone by the times, and in 1993 Tino Colla and Federica decided to open their own winery in Langhe Albesi. In the 1880s, the Rhine Riesling grapes were planted in the Cas-cine Drago vineyard area: the first year's ripening is characterised by citrus aromas, after which the wine develops classic complexity of flavour and still has fresh acidity, which gives it good ageing potential.
Grapes: Riesling 100%
Origin: Piedmont
Altitude: approx. 330 metres
Orientation of the vineyard: East-North-East
Vines planted: 1987 in Alba
Yield of wine: approx. 5000 litres/ha
Planting density: approx. 4000 vines/ha
Harvesting period: 10th September - 20th September
Acidity: 7-8g/L
Dry extract: 18-20g/L
Vinification: Hand-picked grapes, gently pressed and clarified at 8-10 degrees centigrade for 24 hours. The wine is then aged in stainless steel vats at 20-22 degrees Celsius, where it stops alcoholic fermentation, does not undergo malolactic fermentation, is left in contact with the mash for a few months, spends the winter cooling naturally, and is bottled in the spring, where it is released after a few months of bottle ageing.
Tasting notes: The wine is straw yellow in colour with a greenish tinge. Aromas of elegant mountain flowers, persistent minerality and intense citrus flavours. It has a crisp acidity, a full body and a long finish. With age, it will become smoother on the palate.
Serving suggestion: as an aperitif, with appetisers or fish main courses.
Serve at 9-11°C in a tulip glass.
