Sartirano family has been in the wine business since 1871. The company's development started with Giovanni Sartirano, who, in 1910, began to set up the sales structure long side the production of wines. In 1946, after the war, his sons Pietro and Giovanni continued to build up the business, branching out and stepping up the distribution with a single mission: high quality production and marketing of the wines grown by the winery, which was called CANTINE SANSILVESTRO. At the end of the 1980's the company received new drive when Guido and Paolo joined, and in 1988 COSTA DI BUSSIA - Tenuta Arnulfo - a producer of long standing with 37 acres of entirely south- facing vineyards in Monforte d' Alba - was purchased, with a new and independent company being set up: Costa di Bussia, which bottles the wines grown on its own estate. 2006-THE NEW SAN SILVESTRO WINERY: In 2002, the Sartirano family purchased 8 hectares land in the middle of Barolo region, just 3 kilometers from the Barolo castle. The estate is south- westfacing,360 metres above sea- level and includes a natu- ral lake called " Lago dell a Ghercina". Grape: 100% Nebbiolo Area of production: Barolo municipality Tasting notes: Hints of blackberry, currant pulp and sweet cherry interspersed with delicate toasted and balsamic scents. Powerful tannins in the mouth, but well balancedby ap leasant feeling of envelopment like velvet. Fine and per- sistent. Food & wine matches: Lasagne with porcini mushrooms, tartare of raw Piedmontese meat with Parmesan, fried egg with white truffle from Alba, castelmagno, matured Parmesan.
